LOSS AND DAMAGE : TRAINING FOR TRAINERS

July 21, 2023 @ 8:00 am - July 22, 2023 @ 5:00 pm

Climate change is impacting the world in many different ways. Countries located in the intertropical zone are most likely to receive the greatest impact from climate change, and due to their great vulnerability, these countries are facing losses and damages, such as the floods in India in early 2023. The last four years have been the hottest on record, and these temperature rises have led to a wave of unprecedented climatic events, mainly affecting developing countries like Cameroon.

It’s clear, that the Earth’s climate is changing, and nations, especially those in Africa, are suffering the consequences. The physical risks associated with climate change and the already high impacts of acute and chronic hazards are exposing sub-Saharan Africa in particular to serious economic and non-economic losses and threats to its development trajectory. These impacts have different manifestations depending on the characteristics of the agro-ecological zone in question. It is essential to understand the nature and extent of the physical risks arising from climate change over the next three decades, years in which there will be a high probability of further loss and damage if nothing is done.

Faced with this existing threat, it would be advantageous to reinforce actions at local and national level. With this in mind, the Loss and Damage Youth Collaboration, in association with the African Environmental network, is organizing a workshop to actively train trainers in loss and damage management.

Objective:

Contribute to the improvement and increase of responses to loss and damage by improving knowledge and action through the training of trainers.

  1. Specific objectives :
  • Select and train at least 10 trainers
  • Organize a field trip
  • Raising awareness
  • Stimulate more actions to manage loss and damage
