SUMMARY:Campagne de sensibilisation dans la ville de Niamtougou au Togo / Awareness campaign in the town of Niamtougou\, Togo
\n…………………………….. \nDuring the Christmas and New Year period\, increased consumption leads to an increase in household waste\, particularly packaging and other disposable products. This poorly managed waste presents environmental and health risks for communities. African Environmental Network\, in collaboration with the Association Action Développement Culture (ADC – Doufelgou)\, will be organizing an awareness campaign in the town of Niamtougou\, Togo\, from December 23 to 24\, 2024\, to raise residents’ awareness of good waste management practices during this festive period. \nThis activity is in line with the “Togo Propre” operation decreed by the government since 2017\, which aims to “make neighborhoods more liveable” and contribute to the cleanliness of cities throughout the country\, but also to empower neighborhood residents in the maintenance and sanitation of their living environment\, and involve them more in local development.

SUMMARY:LOSS AND DAMAGE : TRAINING FOR TRAINERS
DESCRIPTION:Climate change is impacting the world in many different ways. Countries located in the intertropical zone are most likely to receive the greatest impact from climate change\, and due to their great vulnerability\, these countries are facing losses and damages\, such as the floods in India in early 2023. The last four years have been the hottest on record\, and these temperature rises have led to a wave of unprecedented climatic events\, mainly affecting developing countries like Cameroon. \nIt’s clear\, that the Earth’s climate is changing\, and nations\, especially those in Africa\, are suffering the consequences. The physical risks associated with climate change and the already high impacts of acute and chronic hazards are exposing sub-Saharan Africa in particular to serious economic and non-economic losses and threats to its development trajectory. These impacts have different manifestations depending on the characteristics of the agro-ecological zone in question. It is essential to understand the nature and extent of the physical risks arising from climate change over the next three decades\, years in which there will be a high probability of further loss and damage if nothing is done. \nFaced with this existing threat\, it would be advantageous to reinforce actions at local and national level. With this in mind\, the Loss and Damage Youth Collaboration\, in association with the African Environmental network\, is organizing a workshop to actively train trainers in loss and damage management. \nObjective: \nContribute to the improvement and increase of responses to loss and damage by improving knowledge and action through the training of trainers. \n  \n\nSpecific objectives : \n\n\nSelect and train at least 10 trainers\nOrganize a field trip\nRaising awareness\nStimulate more actions to manage loss and damage

SUMMARY:The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution\, including in the marine environment
DESCRIPTION:The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution\, including in the marine environment (INC-2) will take place from 29 May to 2 June 2023 at the United Nations Educational\, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters in Paris\, France. The meeting will be preceded by regional consultations on 28 May 2023\, at the same venue. \nIn February 2022\, at the resumed fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2)\, a historic resolution (5/14) was adopted to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution\, including in the marine environment with the ambition to complete the negotiations by end of 2024. The instrument is to be based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the full life cycle of plastic. \nThe rapidly increasing levels of plastic pollution represent a serious global environmental issue that negatively impacts the environmental\, social\, economic and health dimensions of sustainable development. Under a business-as-usual scenario and in the absence of necessary interventions\, the amount of plastic waste entering aquatic ecosystems could nearly triple from some 9–14 million tonnes per year in 2016 to a projected 23–37 million tons per year by 2040. \n  \nSource: UNEP

SUMMARY:Cop27
DESCRIPTION:A defining moment in the fight against climate change.\nScience has established beyond doubt that the window for action is closing rapidly. In November 2022\, Egypt will host the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh\, with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition. \nA golden opportunity for all stakeholders to rise to the occasion and tackle effectively the global challenge of climate change facilitated by Egypt on the African continent. \nIt is the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference\nEgypt assumes the incoming Presidency of COP 27 with a clear recognition of the gravity of the global climate challenge and appreciation of the value of multilateral\, collective and concerted action as the only means to address this truly global threat. \nAs we approach COP27\, we are committed to support an inclusive\, transparent and party-driven process to ensure timely and adequate action. \n  \nFrom Stockholm\, Rio\, Bali\, Kyoto\, Durban\, Paris\, Katowice\, Glasgow to Sharm El-Sheikh\nGlobal political will\, supported by science heading to a paradigm shift through just and ambitious transformation. \nIPCC has provided the credible science\, successive COP decisions laid out the collective governmental actions\, The Convention and its agreements outlined the principles\, legal obligations and guidelines for collective action. \nRecent IPCC reports have highlighted the gravity of the climate crisis and the need for immediate and sustained political will\, impactful action and effective cooperation. Building on Glasgow’s momentum\, we seek to further enhance the scope of deliverables across the climate action agenda. \nWe believe there is a need for progress on the ground on all aspects of our work; mitigation\, adaptation\, finance\, loss and damage. \nWe are aware of the challenges and the opportunities related to climate action\, and the potentials and needs of all including those who are in vulnerable situations and the vulnerable communities and we stand ready to engage with all parties to accelerate climate action.
